Description
This talk introduces the principles of blockchain technology, focusing on its history and key algorithmic components, and important design, privacy, and security considerations when using blockchains in practice. Interest in distributed and dispersed computing has increased focus on decentralized ledger technology (blockchains) and its cryptocurrency applications (Bitcoin). But blockchains also can potentially revolutionize a Smart Grid by providing an efficient, distributed mechanism for clearing energy transactions in electrical power distributions. Blockchains likewise can address data interoperability and access control challenges while delivering patient data securely to health care organizations and devices. Speakers: Abhishek Dubey, assistant professor of computer science; Douglas Schmidt, Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Engineering and professor of computer science; and Jules White, assistant professor of computer science.
