Ms. Benz is a Senior Vice President, based in San Francisco, who leads Segal Benz, our communications practice. Segal Benz helps organizations engage their people and drive business results through effective communication. Segal Benz has received top honors from Pensions & Investments, Business Insurance, the Profit Sharing Council of America, Employee Benefit News and others.
Ms. Benz launched Benz Communications in 2006 and quickly established the company as a leading voice in the employee benefits industry. Benz Communications was one of the Top 100 Women-Owned Businesses in the Bay Area from 2012 through 2019, up until The Segal Group acquired the company. Her company was a five-time honoree on the Inc. 5,000, which lists the nation’s fastest-growing private companies, and it was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Fastest-Growing Companies in the Bay Area.

Prior to starting Benz Communications, Ms. Benz spent seven years at Hewitt Associates.

Ms. Benz graduated from the University of Missouri with a BA in Journalism.

As an influential voice in the employee benefits industry, Ms. Benz is widely quoted in publications, including The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, Employee Benefit News, Human Resource Executive, HR Magazine and Workforce.
She has testified twice about retirement education before the Department of Labor’s ERISA Advisory Council, and Workforce magazine named her an industry Game Changer. She served for three years as the program chair for the HR Executive Health and Benefits Leadership Conference, one of the industry’s premier events. She also advises several industry organizations and startups.
Ms. Benz also devotes much of her time to pro bono work with local nonprofits and in Guatemala.
Christopher Lawson

Mr. Lawson is a Vice President in Segal’s East Region. He has 25 years of experience in leadership and business development consulting with mid and large market clients.
Professional background
Prior to joining Segal, Mr. Lawson was with Morneau Shepell helping them to develop their U.S. go-to-market strategy and distribution model after acquiring the outsource Business Administration practice from Mercer. Prior to Morneau Shepell, Mr. Lawson worked at Mercer as the U.S. Large Market Sales Leader reporting to the U.S. Health CEO overseeing the U.S. Business Administration practice and Mercer Marketplace exchange solution.
Education/professional designations
Mr. Lawson earned a BA in Economics from the University of Massachusetts (Boston). In addition, he attended Lesley University’s Masters of Management Program and most recently completed the Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Program on Leadership.
Mr. Lawson is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA) as the National Business Group on Health (NBGH). Chris has been an executive presenter at multiple national industry events including: Segal’s Higher Ed practice, Mercer Center for Health Innovation and as a key note speaker at annual industry events.
