Description
On February 24, join sf.citi and Greater Nashville Technology Council for Mapping The Tech Exodus as we compare the tech policy landscapes of San Francisco and Nashville. We’ll discuss the factors contributing to the ongoing migration of tech workers and companies outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as approaches cities like Nashville are taking to attract tech talent (and tax dollars).
Join sf.citi for the next installment of our event series, Mapping The Tech Exodus, where we will be exploring the changing landscape of tech and its effects on San Francisco and emerging tech hubs across the country. The Greater Nashville Technology Council's President and CEO, Brian Moyer, will speak to sf.citi’s Executive Director, Jennifer Stojkovic, about the factors contributing to the ongoing migration of tech workers and companies outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as approaches Nashville is taking to attract tech talent.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, few industries have adapted to our "new normal" and shift to remote work like the tech industry. Many tech workers have jumped at the opportunity to live and work in a city outside the Bay Area with a higher quality of life, more affordable housing, and fewer taxes. In fact, the once-bustling tech epicenter of San Francisco has seen its population plummet as tech workers and companies relocate across the country.
Cities like Nashville, meanwhile, have benefitted from the San Francisco tech exodus and greater tech migration. In 2020, Tennesse had the largest net gain of U-haul trucks, making it the top destination of one-way movers in the country. California, on the other hand, ranked dead last with the highest net loss of U-haul trucks. Considered a tech boomtown even before the pandemic, Nashville has continued to attract big-city urbanites and transient tech companies with its affordable housing, low cost of living, and zero state income tax.
On February 23, join sf.citi and the Greater Nashville Technology Council as we compare the tech trends and policies between San Francisco and Nashville.
sf.citi has been tracking the latest developments in the tech exodus here. Take a look and come prepared with questions.
