Description
Dr. Mike Butera is designing a future where musical expression is ubiquitous and accessible to all. Mike and his team create beautiful, intuitive technologies that empower sonic expression, creation, and fascination.
A professional musician by training and a Ph.D. in Sound Studies, Mike invented a new type of musical instrument that anyone can play. It’s called the
INSTRUMENT 1, and it’s a key part of the mobile music revolution that empowers us to carry a recording studio anywhere we go. His invention inspires users to imagine new instruments that adapt to our inspiration and style.
After four years of research and development, Mike and his team launched the INSTRUMENT 1 on Kickstarter. It quickly became the most successful crowdfund for a musical instrument worldwide, with backers from over seventy countries helping to bring the INSTRUMENT 1 to life. It has since been named one of
TIME Magazine’s Best Inventions of the Year, was awarded Best in Show at the NAMM show, and can be found at the MoMA Design Stores in New York City and Tokyo. The INSTRUMENT 1 is a creative palette that invites beginners, hobbyists, and pros to explore music in powerful but familiar new ways.
Join us in our discussion with Mike, who will present about his entrepreneurial journey and how his invention has become a disruptive innovation in music and tech. Mike will also show a demo of the technology followed by a Q&A session.
